One person was killed and at least two others were injured in a tragic Cerritos six-vehicle crash on Wednesday, January 5. According to authorities, the accident involved a FedEx truck. The crash was reported at Bloomfield Avenue and South Street around 9:08 a.m. One person died at the scene whereas another was rushed to the hospital.

Geovanni Sanchez, a Fire Department spokesperson said that another person was injured in the Cerritos six-vehicle crash but not taken to the hospital. The driver of the FedEx truck was identified as Cesar Alarcon. At the time of the collision, Alarcon was at the stoplight. The employee of FedEx, a 16-year-old, told that he froze at the scene seeing how the wreckage was all mangled. The FedEx truck angled across several lanes of the intersection according to the video. The side panel caved in after its frame bent. Next to a crumpled dark gray sedan, packages were scattered.

Roxanne Harris was driving with her two daughters aged 15 and 7. She saw the collision as it occurred behind her. She explained that it looked like an explosion as debris and black smoke could be seen. Hours after the crash, responders were trying to rescue a man in the mangled wreckage of a Mercedes.

Alarcon saw a person who wasn’t moving and was trapped in the car. Harris said that the Mercedes was driving very fast when it struck the FedEx truck.
